5 Christmas cookie recipes you want to try

What would Christmas be without the smell of freshly baked cookies? From gingerbread to Radetzky cookies or Amaretto swirls – there are plenty of good recipes out there. Happy baking!

Radetzky cookies

If you like chocolate, hazelnuts and want a true taste of traditional Viennese baking culture, you will love these cookies.

You need the following ingredients:

  • 210 g plain flour
  • 50 g sugar
  • 140 g ground roasted hazelnuts
  • 50g grated chocolate
  • 150g butter
  • some egg white or water
  • 100-200 g chocolate or couverture for the frosting
  • 1 shot of milk for the frosting

How it works

Knead the ingredients into a smooth dough. If the dough is too dry, add some egg white or water. Chill in the fridge for half an hour. After chilling, knead again until smooth (add some more water if necessary) and form small balls (approx. 3-4 cm in diameter). The balls can then easily be used to form little crescents. Bake in a preheated oven at approx. 160°C on a baking tray (temperature may vary depending on oven) until the crescents are slightly browned and no longer soft. 

For the chocolate frosting, melt the couverture or chocolate in a water bath. Milk chocolate also works well. For a smoother consistency, stir in a shot of milk if necessary. 

When the cookies have cooled down, dip the ends into the liquid chocolate and chill on a draining rack.
